The Flowering Cross

Some years ago an article was in Guidepost Magazine explaining that a church had a flowering cross Easter tradition. About a month before Easter, a wooden cross covered with wire is placed outside the church. Members and people in the community are encouraged to add silk flowers to the cross during the month. Each flower represents a prayer offered by the person adding it to the cross. These can be prayers of thanks and appreciation, prayers of concern, prayers for a specific person or need or any kind of prayer. Flowers can be placed in memory of someone also. People can place as many flowers as they want and as often as they want, until the cross is filled. White Oak reintroduced this tradition a few years ago. Let’s continue this tradition this year. Flowers will be available in a box near the cross for you to use or you can bring your own. Let’s see how beautiful we can make our cross this year as it is transformed from dull wood to colorful flowers.
